Build Big: Fall 2022

The scale of your artwork shouldn’t be limited by kiln size. Making modular sculpture is an accessible and sustainable approach for working in large-scale. In this course you will learn methods of building large-scale ceramic sculpture including historic and contemporary techniques, as well as conceptual and political implications of building in parts.

Over the course of 5 class meetings you will build a tall sculpture in at least 2 parts. No prior ceramics experience is required. All are encouraged to apply.

There are 5 spaces open for each of the sessions.  To apply, fill out the application form  and choose your preferred session.

At the studio in Glassell Park, Los Angeles.

Session 1: November 7, November 9, November 14, November 16, November 21, 6-9pm

Session 2: December 5, December 7, December 12, December 14, December 19 6-9 pm

Tuition is $1500 including materials, firing and optional open studio hours.

Installment payments and scholarships are available.

Announcing the SCULPT scholarship sponsored by the BZIPPY FUND

The SCULPT Scholarship, sponsored by the BZIPPY FUND, provides full tuition awards to artists interested in expanding their knowledge of clay processes through “Big Build.” The initiative seeks to cultivate a community of makers beyond institutional models and promote democratized access to ceramic education that isn’t contingent on finances, space, or equipment. 
Priority is given to QTBIPoC.

Work-Study Discount

Available to one student per session is a work-study tuition discount. Work-study recipients will help set up, clean up, load and unload kilns. Apply for work-study
