Communicating Through Glaze

Communicating Through Glaze: Spring 2021
Julia Haft-Candell

In this introductory course we will discuss the history of glaze, its color, functionality, and chemistry. We will look at surface vs form, and how these variables affect the way your work conveys information within the context of ceramic history as well as the broader contemporary art world. Throughout a weekend intensive you will learn how to mix your own low-fire and mid-range glazes, as well as basics of glaze chemistry and and firing electric kilns.

No prior ceramics experience is required, and all are encouraged to apply.

All recommended social distance protocols will be followed; classes will be held outdoors, masks are required, and enrollment is limited to 5 students.

The class will meet the weekend of March 20-21, 2021 // 10am-3pm

Tuition is $550 including materials, supplies, firings, and an informational zine with glaze recipes.
